This project, titled The Last Minute, was inspired by rituals and traditions honoring death from various cultures. The objects are symbolic as well as functional, representing modern interpretations where ritual and tradition meet. The series deals with the concept of memory and transience in the form of urns and other objects used in this sacred rite of passage.

Modern Representation of the Deceased

Hello everyone! I’ve been out and about today and enjoyed it so much! It felt good to get my errands done but above all, to connect with a very good friend of mine and to go shopping together in her store! Fun! I found some great Danish clothes and a pretty dress that I will wear to Berlin on Friday. It’s always so nice to be with a sweet girlfriend – so energizing! I came home home with sweaters, shirts, knee socks, leggings and a dress – and that post-shopping guilt, “Oh dear, I exceeded my shopping budget for like five years!”. But they I realized that I did need the clothing but that I also supported two shop owners today who have sweet stores that they love and manage with such care – that really means something to me more and more.

I can’t recall how I found out about this artist, I think through Leslie , but I am crazy in love with the watercolor illustrations of Ana Montiel right now. From herbs to peep toe pumps, there is so much to love about Ms. Montiel! This London-based, Spanish visual artist and designer has a great eye, there is nothing on her website that I don’t connect to on some level. It’s fun, fresh, funky, there is a certain energy to her work that I appreciate and her colorways make me smile — soft but stylish and fresh. Her bio is so interesting but it’s her illustrated personal timeline that I love so much, you have to check it out here

Are you ready to get inside the mind of a professional stylist today? I thought I’d interview the very talented Meagan Camp in Northern California today, but this isn’t your typical interview… What I’ve done is I’ve selected imagery from her portfolio that she styled and then asked her to explain the thought process behind each shot. I love her answers and think you’ll find Ms. Camp most inspiring… so let’s get started! Hi Meagan! Can you tell us how you got into styling? I laugh to admit that it all started with a Barbie “Dream House”! But I do remember intensely studying design books, magazines and catalogs and carefully observing how the items in each image were laid out, lit, and arranged

I talked about Luci Everett awhile ago but I’m so in love with the work of dear Luci in Melbourne, Australia that I have to share what she does over and over again. Do you know this amazing lady? If not, I totally think you should because she never ceases to amaze and inspire with her gorgeous drawings, collages, graphics and watercolors. I totally dig her use of color, too.

I was out walking in the forest this morning and decided to circle back to look in the window of a local junk shop — I mean, why can’t a fitness walk turn into a decorating adventure? :) I’m so glad I took my indulgent detour. I not only found a man selling the freshest watermelon ever along with sweet peaches from France, but the shop was open and even better, I found this lovely solid wood lamp.

Come one! Come all! Lise M. from Urban Style Vibes in the Netherlands contacted me a few months ago and together, we’ve been working on launching a blogging event in Amsterdam. She had the idea and asked me to get involved and we quickly realized that it would be a great collaboration since I have also been wanting to pull together another blogger’s event like ones I’ve hosted in the past here in Europe – just a bit larger. Lise has been great to work with and along with her friend, Janneke, we’ve worked out quite a nice event for you to attend so try to make it if you can as it’s going to be a pretty big deal! The idea around Meet The Blogger is to get a bunch of blogger’s together in a room to mix + mingle, to be inspired, to hear stories of other bloggers and of course to enjoy light refreshments and to break off into smaller groups afterwards to go for my book signing from 5-7 at the American Book Center and then out for cocktails, dinner, etc.

I’m not a fussy tea drinker and don’t give a rat’s tail about blend, brew or steeping, but I have this tea connoisseur cousin who has painstakingly mastered the art of brewing his perfect cuppa. For the impatient and the perfectionists alike, we have the Tesera Teemachine. It is an automated tea machine that dishes out the perfect cup by controlling the brewing time, water temperature and the amount of tea, depending upon the blend being used. This is how it should be! I know it’s hard to embrace being “lean and green” in this new eco-culture but there’s one thing you can do to help and that’s to stop using plastic water bottles. It takes 24 million gallons of oil to produce a billion plastic bottles. 80% are not recycled and take 700 years to decompose. The deadly BPA compound in these bottles is found to be extremely hazardous and already banned in some countries. We’ve teamed up with Nice Reusables to giveaway 5 of their ALEX bottles if you make us a promise.
